     SVQs in Barbering and Hairdressing Courses

    To get the skills required to work in a barbershop or hairdressing salon. Our SVQs has several skills including perming, styling, shampooing and advanced correction of color.

    A barbering SVQ and a Hairdressing SVQ are for anybody that wants to get into the barbering and hairdressing career. There is a wide range of options suitable for needs of an individual and for someone working in this industry already; one can build the skills to be a senior stylist.

    INVOLVEMENTS OF THE COURSE

    The following topics are covered as per the selected level:

    • Styling and cutting hair
    • Hair extensions and perming
    • Running the reception of the saloon and greeting customers
    • Advising clients on colors and hairstyles that suit them
    • Twisting, plaiting, blow-drying and shampooing
    • Dressing and coloring long hair

    To get the above qualifications, the learner is required to show that he or she possesses some skills set. The learner works with his or her training provider so as to review the skills that the learner already has and ding the suitable method to acquire new ones including by doing new things at the place of study or work.

    The SVQs are assessed in a real work environment or at the area of study. For every, the supervisor observes the learner as he or she carries out various services and reviews his or her understanding. The information is entered into the learner’s log book which in turn gives evidence of learning.

    The qualifications involve the practice of hairdressing, learning the skills needed and be able to arrange own study. The learner records his or her achievements in the logbook with tips and hints from the experts in the industry.

    The learner may also make use of the MHD academy that gives him or her high professional quality video resources, glossaries, handouts, fact sheets and step by step PDFs.

    THE CAREERS THAT THIS LEADS TO

    A barbering or hairdressing SVQ can enable in jump starting your professional career in barbering or hairdressing. With level four SCQF qualification in hairdressing, one can get a job as a first-class assistant. The other higher levels can help one become a salon manager or a stylist.

     For one to run his or her own salon and be a specialist in certain hairdressing treatments and hair types there are other qualifications which are important:

    • Level Three diplomas and certificates in hairdressing-learning and updating new techniques and skills
    • Level Three Make-up, Media, Theatrical and special Effect Diploma- learning and updating new techniques and skills
    • Level Four Advanced Techniques and Management Practices in the sector of hair and beauty- the skills needed to run a saloon.
    • Prevention of Contact Dermatitis Award- the skills to prevent clients from being infected.

    To provide treatments of beauty such as spa therapy and nail services, look at the section of qualifications of beauty therapy.

    INVOLVEMENTS OF THE COURSE DELIVERY

    The qualifications are assessed in the place of work or a real environment of working. The qualifications require various methods of assessments and the standards of a national occupation give a scope of what is supposed to be assessed. The assessment methods include knowledge and questioning assignments, observing performance, paper tests, and online e-assessment.

    The learners must be given a real working environment whereby they can build and practice their knowledge and skills

    Centers should be able to give learners the resources that they need to build their skills and knowledge. There is a dedicated support online called MHD Academy that gives high professional quality videos that offer lesson plans, learning plans, worksheets, handouts, schemes of work and fact sheets and step by step PDFs.

    There are no entry requirements of the age limit to have the qualifications.

    SCQF Five

    This is appropriate for the learners that have got a little experience in the industry of barbering and hairdressing.  It includes the ones who want to be junior stylists.

    THE CAREERS THAT LEVEL FIVE SCQF LEADS TO
