    Skills of Pharmacy Services Courses

    The qualification has the in depth procedures that are used to serve customers, maintain stock and check medicine in a pharmacy setting.

    For one to register as a technician in pharmacy, as it is needed by the Pharmaceutical Council, one has to have the Diploma in Level Three Pharmaceutical science and the Level three Diploma in Service Skills in Pharmacy. One can do them as separate entities or as a pharmacy apprenticeship.

    The qualification of pharmacy service is a license to do the qualification.

    The qualification is for everybody that has an interest in starting a career as an assistant in a pharmacy or a technician assistant. There is no previous experience needed for level two.

    Assessment is done at the workplace and therefore one has to be a trainee or an employee at a pharmacy setting.

    THE INVOLVEMENTS OF STUDYING THE COURSE

    At this level, one gains skills and knowledge to work in managing stock, process prescription and in a pharmacy team.

    The things that are covered include:

    Providing services to meet the needs of the customers

    Safety and health

    Team working

    Assembling prescriptions

    At the third level the learner will be able to contribute to smooth running of the pharmacy and dispense medicine efficiently and safely

    The things covered are:

    Safety and health

    Processing queries

    Confirming if prescription are correct

    Filling medicines as per prescription

    Advising on symptoms

    Maintaining, ordering and receiving stock

    Ensuring the prescriptions have been filled correctly

    To have the NVQ, a learner has to show that he or she has a certain skills set. The learner will work together with a training provider who will review the currents skills and get the suitable ways to acquire new ones by studying or just trying new things.

    The qualifications of NVQ will be assessed in a pharmacy during a training placement. For every unit, the assessor will ask questions and watch as the learner does tasks or will just review the work portfolio that will be developed as an evidence of learning. They will then be able to confirm that the learner has got the skills needed to perform the job.

    Level Two

    This is for those that want to be employed as assistants in the pharmacy and develop skills and knowledge that relates to the basic pharmacy duties. It may be an apprenticeship.

    Level Three

    This is for those that have already done level two.  It can be for the individuals that are ready to enhance their medicine knowledge and register as the pharmacy technicians. It may be an apprenticeship.

    THE CAREERS THAT THIS LEADS TO

    Level two

    Qualification of level two is a component of the scheme training that is approved and allows the learner to be employed as a pharmacy assistant.

    Level three

    Qualification of level three is a component of the scheme training that is approved and allows the learner to be employed as a pharmacy technician that dispenses medicines in the settings of a pharmacy.

    To be a technician one needs to the level three pharmacy service skills qualification and also be registered with the council of pharmaceuticals.

    THE INVOLVEMENTS OF THE COURSE DELIVERY

    For one to qualify to deliver the NVQ, he or she needs qualified staff for assessment and training.

    There will be need for suitable resources and facilities for training and attainment of industry requirements by learners.

    This is open for anybody but there must be enough resources for all learners that are required to complete the course.

    Automatic approval can be received for those offering the NVQ pharmacy services.

    Level Two

    This is for those that want to be employed as assistants in the pharmacy and develop skills and knowledge that relates to the basic pharmacy duties. It may be an apprenticeship.

    The three mandatory units at this level are:

    Working as team in the pharmacy

    Communicating with customers at the pharmacy

    Regulations, laws, safety and health at the pharmacy

    Three optional units are chosen from several choices including:

    Safely assembling prescriptions\issuing and ordering pharmacy stock

    Manufacture and preparation for aseptic products

    Maintain stock in the pharmacy

    THE CAREERS THAT THIS CAN LEAD TO

    The qualification at level two is part of a scheme training that is approved and allows one to work as an assistant in the pharmacy.

    Level Three

    Level three for those that have already done level two.  It can be for the individuals that are ready to enhance their medicine knowledge and register as the pharmacy technicians. It may be an apprenticeship.

    14 core units are completed at level three that include the following:

    Process queries at the pharmacy

    Issue the items that have been prescribed

    Order stock at the pharmacy

    Give a responsive and effective pharmacy service

    One can also choose from the following optional units:

    Contribute to team effectiveness

    Give advice on symptoms and medicines and actions to be taken

    Review and prepare individual’s medicine
