    Controlling Lifting Operations – Slinger/Signaller (Construction) Courses

    A Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations – Slinger/Signaller is official recognition of the knowledge and skills needed to work in this area of the construction field.

    This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who work or want to work in the construction industry and specialise in the lifting suspended loads.

    Level 2

    You have some knowledge and basic skills in lifting operations – probably from a role where you work under supervision. You want recognition for your skills, giving you the chance to take on more responsibility.

    LEVEL 2 NVQ DIPLOMA IN CONTROLLING LIFTING OPERATIONS – SLINGER/SIGNALLER (CONSTRUCTION).

    Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations (Construction)

    The NVQs in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting are usually completed in the workplace, and demonstrate competency against the National Occupational Standards.

    They are competency qualifications in the Construction Building Apprenticeship Framework (England and Wales) (Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting pathway).

    This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who work or want to work in the construction industry and specialise in the area of decorative finishing.

    Level 2

    This qualification demonstrates competence against the National Occupational Standards for Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting.

    At Level 2, you will learn the techniques and gain the confidence to apply high-quality finishes to a variety of surfaces.

    Level 3

    This qualification demonstrates competence against the National Occupational Standards for Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting.

    At Level 3, you will learn more about organisation in the construction sector, and learn advanced and complex techniques for applying finishes.

    Dry Lining

    Dry lining is the fitting of plaster board or other board material to finish walls and ceilings, in place of the more traditional plastering. Many modern domestic and commercial properties will be finished with dry lining instead of plaster, and this qualification will provide you with the skills needed to work as a dry liner in the industry. You may wish to study for the associated NVQ in Interior Systems, which is sometimes required to work on construction sites in the UK.

    This qualification is aimed at learners wishing to develop or consolidate skills in dry lining, and will prepare you for further learning, training and employment in the construction industry.

    We have produced sample tests to enable tutors and learners to experience the look and feel of e-volve prior to sitting the test, and also experience the type and style of question that will be asked in the test.

    Level 2

    Dry lining at Level 2 is ideal if you have some knowledge and basic skills in plastering or other interior systems, probably from a role where you have worked under supervision, or if you have studied a qualification at Level 1 in plastering or other construction trades. You are seeking greater recognition for your skills, and the opportunity to take on more responsibility.

    Our qualification covers the following knowledge and skills:

    Principles of building construction, information and communication

    Install suspended ceiling systems

    Install partitions

    Install wall linings and encasement systems

    Fix sheet materials using direct bond method

    Apply taping and jointing systems to plasterboard

    Understand specialist systems for dry lining and interiors

    Apply finishing plaster to plasterboard

    Apply sprayed plaster to plasterboard

    LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA IN DRY LINING

    Floorcovering Occupations (Construction)

    A Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Floorcovering Occupations is official recognition of the knowledge and skills needed to work in this area of the construction field.

    This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who work or want to work in the construction industry and specialise in the area of floor covering.

    Level 2

    Level 2 is ideal if you have some knowledge and basic skills in flooring work – probably from a role where you work under supervision. You want recognition for your skills, giving you the chance to take on more responsibility.

    Health and Safety in a Construction Environment

    This Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification is for learners wishing to apply for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme Green Card.

    The CSCS Green Card is intended for those working in labouring occupations only. From July 2014 CSCS is planning to introduce a new requirement for applicants to achieve a formal knowledge based qualification, the ‘Health and Safety in a Construction Environment’ Award. Achievement of this award will demonstrate the applicant’s understanding of key issues affecting safe working practices on UK construction sites.

    This qualification is for learners wishing to qualify for the CSCS UK Ltd Green Card to access construction sites in the UK as a non-skilled worker.

    A sample test is also available for the CSCS Green Card qualification:

    Level 1 Award Health and Safety in a Construction Environment

    On completion of the sample tests, you will be provided with a result (pass/fail and percentage) and a report can be viewed that provides feedback on the results.

    Level 1

    This level allows the learner to take the CITB/HSE test and apply for a CSCS Green Card.

    Insulation and Building Treatments

    This qualification allows learners to learn, develop knowledge and practise the skills required in a training environment for installing insulation and building treatments. It covers different specialist areas from cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation and loft insulation to damp-proofing. It also forms the knowledge element of the Level 2 Intermediate Construction Specialist apprenticeship framework and enables candidates to progress to the Level 2 NVQ Certificate/Diploma in Insulation and Building Treatments or onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in the construction sector.

    This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who work or want to work in the construction industry and specialise in the installation of insulation and other building treatments for existing and new build properties.

    WHAT IS INVOLVED IN STUDYING THIS COURSE?

    Studying this course involves a mixture of learning to include knowledge and practical skills in a training environment.  It covers different specialist areas of insulation and building treatments such as cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation and loft insulation.

    WHAT CAREERS CAN THIS LEAD TO?

    This qualification can lead to a career as an Insulation installer.

    WHAT IS INVOLVED WITH DELIVERING THIS COURSE?

    To deliver this qualification centres will need qualified assessors, centres can train internal members of staff or recruit specialists. Centres will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

    Level 2

    WHAT CAREERS CAN THIS LEAD TO?

    This qualification can lead to a career as a insulation installer.

    Insulation and Building Treatments

    An NVQ Certificate or Diploma in Insulation and Building Treatments is official recognition of the knowledge and skills needed to install insulation or carry out building maintenance work. You can chose from a range of qualifications to match your particular specialism such as external wall insulation or loft insulation. They also form part of an Apprenticeship framework.

    These qualifications are ideal for those working in the construction industry and specialising in insulation and maintenance.

    WHAT IS INVOLVED IN STUDYING THIS COURSE?

    You can choose the qualification that demonstrates the specialist knowledge and skills you have developed such as:

    building maintenance

    cavity wall insulation

    external wall insulation

    loft insulation

    draught-proofing

    internal insulation

    wood preservation

    damp-proofing

    wall tie replacement.

    You will learn on the job in the work environment. Assessment will also take place in the workplace and will include a portfolio of evidence.

    Level 2

    You are working in building maintenance, specialising in insulation and/or building treatments and have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you’ve been supervised.

    WHAT CAREERS CAN THIS LEAD TO?

    These qualifications can help you to progress in a wide range of building maintenance and treatment and insulation roles.

    WHAT IS INVOLVED WITH DELIVERING THIS COURSE?

    To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors – you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

    You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

    Centres currently offering the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments (Construction) within the previous 12 months may gain fast-track approval for the two new NVQ Certificates and the NVQ Diploma.     There are no eligibility requirements but your job should involve installing insulation or building treatment work. To find all the resource requirements, download the qualification handbook from the centre documents section.

    Level 2

    Level 2 is ideal if you are working in building maintenance, specialising in insulation and/or building treatments and have some relevant level twot knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you’ve been supervised.

    There are two sizes of qualification at this level:

    Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments

    Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Insulation and Building Treatments (Construction).

    Eight certificates are currently available at this level:

    NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – Cavity Wall Insulation (Construction)

    NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – External Wall Insulation (Construction)

    NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – Loft Insulation (Construction)

    NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – Draught-proofing (Construction)

    NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – Internal Insulation (Construction)

    NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – Insulate Framed Sections of Buildings (Construction)

    NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – External Wall Insulation (Finisher)

    NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – External Wall Insulation (Boarder)

    * Please note that these two NVQ certificates replace the NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments – External Wall Insulation (Construction) from February 2013 onwards.

    The certificates comprise three mandatory units including:

    Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace

    Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace

    Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace.

    Depending on your chosen qualification, you complete one additional unit from a wide range of units, including:

    Installing External Wall Insulation in the Workplace

    Installing Draught-proofing to Openings in the Workplace

    Installing Internal Insulation to Walls, Floors or Ceilings in the Workplace.

    Two diplomas are available at this level:

    NVQ Diploma in Insulation and Building Treatments (Construction)

    NVQ Diploma in Insulation and Building Treatments – External Wall Insulation (Boarder/Finisher) (NEW FOR JANUARY 2013)

    The diploma comprises five mandatory units including:

    Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace – Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace- b

    Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace

    Preparing Structures for Treatment in the Workplace

    Reinstating the Structure after Treatment in the Workplace.

    Depending on your chosen pathway, additional units must be taken that include:

    Applying Preservation Treatment in the Workplace

    Installing Wall Ties in Existing Structures in the Workplace.

    Interior Systems (Construction)

    A Level 2 NVQ Certificate or Diploma in Interior Systems is official recognition of the knowledge and skills needed to work in this area of the construction field.

    This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who work or want to work in the construction industry and specialise in the area of interior systems.

    Level 2

    Level 2 is ideal if you have some knowledge and basic skills in interior systems – probably from a role where you work under supervision. You want recognition for your skills, giving you the chance to take on more responsibility.

    Maintenance Operations (Construction)

    A Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Maintenance Operations is official recognition of the knowledge and skills needed to work in this area of the construction field.

    The new Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Building Maintenance Multi-Trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations (BMMRRO) is available now and will replace the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Maintenance Operations later in 2014. Centres should register new candidates on on the BMMRRO qualification.

    This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who work or want to work in the construction industry and specialise in the area of maintenance operations.

    Level 2

    Level 2 is ideal if you have some knowledge and basic skills in maintenance operations – probably from a role where you work under supervision. You want recognition for your skills, giving you the chance to take on more responsibility.

    Maintenance Operations (SCQF)

    This qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Maintenance Operations.

    You have some knowledge and basic skills in carrying out building maintenance work – probably from a role where you work under supervision. You want recognition for your skills, giving you the chance to take on more responsibility.
