To qualify for a VQR (Vocational Related Qualification), learning will take place with a provider through assignments, group discussions and practical sessions.
VQRs will be assessed by the trainer through practical tasks, assignments and online tests or exams. For the certificate in basic skills of construction and the introductory certificate, the learner will be equipped with the basic skills of the qualification by doing practical tasks. This will also include being taught the safety and health practices. The progress will be demonstrated through assignments practically. There are also online multiple choice tests which covers working practices, safety and health. One can take the optional test especially if they want to continue to the next qualifications.

For the Level One Certificate in Basic Skills of Construction Introduction, there are no units required, but just selecting eight from a list which includes:
Internal door hanging
Building a casement window
Applying paint that is oil-based to the wall using a roller
Removing rust and metal priming
Repairing patches in walls that are plastered
Jointing and bending copper pipes
Construction of English bond one brick walls
Bending, threading and cutting conduit
Construction of block and brick gable end
