    Catering and Hospitality Courses – Level 1

    If you want to start in the hospitality industry, this is the place to be. Those that want to work as kitchen assistants, chefs, housekeepers, hotel receptionists and waitresses are included. Whatever sector you have an interest in; there is an introduction certificate which will be appropriate for you.

    A hospitality certificate is suitable for everybody that is new in the hospitality field. Those that are still in college or school and do not have an experience yet.

    No current work or job placement needed to take this course qualification, but one that has one can learn while still doing the job.

    INVOLVEMENTS IN STUDYING THE COURSE

    One can select from the following qualifications:

    Accommodation Services Certificate

    One will acquire skills necessary to work in accommodation services such as a hotel or housekeeping or at reception. One can choose the areas to cover including sorting mail and making beds.

    Beverage and Food Services Certificate

    One will acquire skill necessary to serve drinks and food in bars, pubs, restaurants and others. You will acquire confidence in keeping clean and tidy things and offering great services to customers.

    Cooking and Food Preparation Certificate

    The learner will acquire skills to work in the kitchen. They include cooking dishes and storing food in a hygienic manner. One can proceed to work in any position as kitchen professional maybe in a restaurant, school or hotel.

    Hospitality Services Certificate

    For those that have not decided, this is the place for you. Learners can select what to focus on as they continue. It may be cooking, serving, housekeeping, administration or reception work.

    The qualifications in hospitality can be offered by a training provider from a college or training at work.

    To obtain an NVQ, a learner needs to demonstrate certain special skills. The training provider reviews the skills a learner possess currently and get the most suitable way to acquire new ones for example by studying or doing new things.

    The NVQs get assessed at a simulated job place or work. For every unit, the assessor asks questions and watches as the r learner does the task and looks at the work portfolio which the learner has built as learning evidence. Afterwards, the assessor will confirm that the learner has got the skills required.

    Level One

    This level is appropriate for those that are just starting. They might be students of fourteen years and above or someone with his or her first job in hospitality. This is suitable for those that want an understanding of the work of hospitality to succeed in further studies or at work.

    A Hospitality certificate can help one to get started in the following roles:

    • Hotel receptionist
    • Waiter/waitress
    • Chef

     It is also a foundation for higher studies after getting the certificate; a learner can proceed to level two in the following qualifications:

    • Professional Cookery Diploma
    • Hospitality Diploma
    • Beverage and food service Diploma
    • Confectionary and Patisserie Professional Certificate
    • Barista Skills Award
    • Professional Bartending Award

    THE INVOLVEMENTS OD THE COURSE DELIVERY

    The delivery of the beverage and food qualifications requires that you give the learners appropriate learning resources and environment needed to do all the qualification aspects.

    As much as you can deliver the course using a group setting, some learners will require it designed in such a way that it can be completed as a job in a workplace.

    Learners will be assessed through knowledge and practical assessments.

    No requirements for this qualification but there must be access to the resources needed by each learner.

    Level One

    This level is appropriate for those that are just starting. They might be students of fourteen years and above or someone with his or her first job in hospitality. This is suitable for those that want an understanding of the work of hospitality to succeed in further studies or at work.

    One can choose from the following four qualifications:

    • NVQ Certificate Level One in Accommodation Services
    • NVQ Certificate Level One in Beverage and food services
    • NVQ Certificate Level One in Cooking and Food Preparation
    • NVQ Certificate Level One in Hospitality Services

    Depending on the selected qualifications, one can complete two or more basic units including:

    Working appropriately in hospitality

    Maintaining a secure, hygienic and safe working environment
